Earaches

January 1, 2010

OK. So new years eve was great, but when we got home around one o'clock in the morning we put Jack in his crib because he fell asleep in the car. However, at 2:30 in the morning he woke up screaming and non-stop crying. At first I thought he just needed a bottle and a change of diaper but that wasn't good enough. Jack was up all night long screaming and crying. My next thought was that he might have an earache because he was at a higher elevation in Utah and came down to lower elevation. Plus there is a history of earaches from my in law's side. Jefferson had three ear tube replacement and had tons of ear infection as a child. So all night long Jack was crying and could barely breath because he had a stuffy and running nose. By morning his head was getting hot due to the fact that he was probably getting a fever but he was doing a little better but he did not have a big appetite. Because we have no insurance, since Jefferson and I quit our jobs. Jefferson felt that we didn't really need to take him to the hospital since he was doing better but my mother's intuition said that we needed to take him because something was really wrong. So my mom came and picked me and Jack up and drove us to the Gilbert Hospital which is on Power Road in between Ray Road and Pecos. That hospital is really nice and we where in and out within an hour. Sure enough on Jack's left ear he had a severe earache almost to the point of bursting. His right ear had a bit of infection and it was red but it wasn't anything like his left. Poor kid was crying on and off in the hospital. The saddest part was when they had to take a rectum temperature and they did this twice. But once they gave me him his ear drops which help to numb the pain he did much better and they gave him Motrin which helped with the inflammation. Can you believe that medication without insurance is stinking expensive. For just his medicine and ear drops it cost us $260 dollars. People are seriously making bank off of poor people. So for now Jack takes Augmentin which is a higher dosage of Amoxicillin, his ear drops and motrin. My kid is going to be a druggy with all of these medications. No he probably won't but it has definently made him feel better. Thank goodness for medicine and hospitals. This is Jack's third earache that he has had.

Go and get REAL lavender oil, put some in cup with some water in it, and put a few drops in his ears. It should help with earaches without having a nasty hospital bill.

For kids and babies, home remedy cures include using one teaspoon of olive oil with five drops of lavender oil. Heat the combination, soak a cotton ball and place the ball behind the outer ear. You should not use this mixture as eardrops! Once you have used the liquid, throw it away and do not reuse.
